Dave Sinardet is a professor of political science at the Vrije Universiteit Brussel (VUB) and at UCLouvain (Saint-Louis campus Brussels). He was also elected and appointed as a member of the Royal Flemish Academy of Belgium for Sciences and Arts.
He has published numerous scientific contributions on his research themes such as multi-level governance, federalism, (sub-state) nationalism, multilingual democracies and deliberative democracy. He is also an expert on the Belgian federal constitutional reform process, as well as on Belgian politics in general.
His doctoral thesis (University of Antwerp, 2007) focused on the functioning of public spheres in a multilingual federal state like Belgium and in particular on the role of the media in Belgian linguistic conflicts.
Dave Sinardet is also a columnist. He has written a column for all the quality Belgian dailies in succession. Also through conferences, debates and media interventions, he is an active participant in the Belgian public debate, on both sides of the linguistic border. He is also regularly consulted by the international media on questions of nationalism and federalism.
